Vivai Bortone - The Products - Rooted and grafted vines

Bortone nurseries provide certified "Puglia" type rooted and grafted vines. Scions are about 40-45cm in length, packed in bunches - according to current regulations - with a label that certifies their clonic origin. Our farm prides itself with over 50 years of experience and success in this field, and for that reason we are ready to supply you our availability and knowledge.

The selection of Portinnesto varieties represents a critical step in the establishment of a new plantation as it is a vital influence in the final product - wine.

The choice of the right Portinnesto depends on the correct chemical-physical characteristics of the soil, different farmers' needs and above all on the water at disposal.

Our company takes much care in the selection of soil, application of manure and anti-parasitic treatments. The soil used for our cultivation lies fallow for several years.

The material us selected by our highly skilled staff so that sub-standard scions are not included in those selected for commercial use.

Careful selection of the material and continuous quality control throughout cultivation ensures a high quality of the final product.

*140Ru portinnesto is available as both standard and certified material. USA HYBRID portinnesti are obtained by crossing two different species of certified grafted vines. In this way we have obtained in one plant the positive features of both species.

Particular features of portinnesti:

140 Ruggeri - is robust with very good endurance in limestone and drought.

779 Paulsen - has a good endurance to drought, limestone and to compactness of soil, suited to growth in areas and conditions like those found in the south of Italy.

1103 Paulsen - this Portinnesto is very robust, hence it can be utilised on poorly fertile soils - even if the soil is compact and saline - producing a lighter wine.
